Program Hopes to Turn Teenagers Away From a Life of Crime U-Turn

Program Launches in Tarrant County

Fort Worth (April 19, 2010) – A dynamic new program to help 50 juvenile offenders in Tarrant press conferenceCounty avoid a future life of crime was unveiled today. The U-Turn program will provide juvenile offenders and their families with a comprehensive program to help turn their lives around.

PGA Tour professional Chad Campbell and his wife Amy have initiated the program which will launch May 1, 2010, at the Lynn W. Ross Juvenile Center in Fort Worth. The Chad and Amy Campbell Project is a partnership with the Heart of a Champion Foundation.

“The U-Turn program is going to make a huge impact on the lives of so many of these teenagers,” said Chad Campbell.

“What a great opportunity for them to turn their lives around.”

“Chad and I are so excited that the U-turn program is becoming a reality,” said Amy Campbell. “This idea has been a part of our heart for many years.”

The U-Turn program will also provide training for the parents or caregivers of the participating students. A total of 50 teens and their families will be targeted with the launch of the program, with expansion to additional youth planned.
Each teen will participate in an intensive eight-week process to complete the program and receive a graduation certificate. Programs will continue throughout the year with new students and their families participating in eight-week sessions.

“Chad Campbell is a positive role model and a great ambassador for the PGA TOUR,” said PGATOUR commissioner Tim Finchem. “I am delighted to see Chad and his wife Amy’s involvement in bettering the lives of young men and women in their community through the U-Turn program.”

“The ability to bring a proven program to Tarrant County and the willingness of Chad and Amy to fund this effort will bring untold benefits to these teenagers and to the community as a whole,” said Steve Riach, founder of Heart of a Champion

“U-Turn is a very unique program,” said Riach. “Through the collaborative efforts of Chad and Amy Campbell, Heart of a Champion, and Tarrant County Juvenile Services, together we have the opportunity to impact the lives of Tarrant County teens and help make a positive and tangible difference in their lives – and to help them build a more productive future,”

The Campbells and Heart of a Champion seek to develop U-Turn as a model program that can be replicated in communities across America, through partnerships with Chad’s peers, and organizations and corporations committed to supporting the initiative and responding in a meaningful way to the needs and priorities of at-risk youth.
